    Hello,

    I have a center console with a notched transom and stepped hull

    The notch is 15inch deep and 4inch from step to keel line. The transom is 27 inch.

    I want to mount a Mercury 300 but I'm not sure on the engine shaft length? XL or xxl?

    Thanks for your suggestion

    Is this the typical notch on the top edge of the transom?

    @Yann, please add a picture.

    An outboard leg is rated by the distance from the top to the bottom of the transom, where the OB will be attached. An XL is for 25", while the XXL is for a 30" transom.

    Then what's the 4" and 15" stuff about?

    From your picture the step at the stern is acting like an outboard pod that is integrated into the hull, so not so obvious. Generally with this sort of stern configuration the outboard is raised a couple of holes as it runs in water that has risen after it has left the transom and I would imagine that a 25" motor would be the correct one but I suggest consulting with the designer before ordering a motor as it is impossible to be sure about anything from a small photo. After you fit the motor you might be able to improve performance by lifting it until it lets go on turns, then drop one hole.
