Coracular: Skin is under tension, floor and frame handle compression
The skin is only attached at the gunwales, so in the end compressive loads go through the ribs and the floor, and the tension is through the skin. The keel stays in place mostly out of friction but is tied to the floor, and the chines are trapped under the floor and outside the bits of wood underneath it.
